How Ukrainians plan to spend their vacations
Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted a nationwide opinion poll during May 21–30, 2013. 2030 respondents were interviewed; the investigation covered all regions of Ukraine, including Kiev and Crimea Region; the sample was random and is deemed to be representative for population of Ukraine aged 18 and above.
Statistical sample deviation (with probability of 0.95 and design-effect of 1.5) does not exceed: 3.3% for index close to 50%, 2,8% — for index close to 25%, 2,0% — for index close to 10%, 1,4% — for index close to 5%.
The study found that 68% of Ukrainians do not plan to have vacation; this number has increased slightly in comparison with 2011 (66%); number of those who have no expenses to go somewhere is 21%. In 2011 this number was 23%, the difference is statistically insignificant.
Besides:
- The second most popular pace to spend vacation is Crimea, the Carpathians and other sites in Ukraine (in 2011 — 16% of respondents, in 2013 — 13%).
- 6% of respondents will spend their vacations in cottages and country houses, 4% — in villages with relatives.
- As before, the number of those who plan to travel abroad is only 2% of the population of Ukraine.
In general, the situation remains almost unchanged in comparison with summer 2011.
According to the regional distribution1:
- Residents of Eastern Region are mostly focused on the vacation spent somewhere in Ukraine (16%), while other regions data differs: Central area — 13%, South — 11% and West — 10%.
- The number of those, who prefer cottage and country house holidays is almost the same for all the regions: Central — 7%, Eastern and Western — 6%, South — 5%.
- There is no difference between regions in the number of those who plan to travel to villages: Central, Southern, Eastern Regions — 4%, in the West — 5%.
- Travelers abroad are distributed as follows: 4% of residents of the Western region, 3% — East, 2% and 1% Central and Southern regions accordingly.
- The largest number of those who are not able to go somewhere is concentrated in the West (25%) and South (24%), the lowest — in the Central region (14%). In the Eastern region this number constitutes 23% of respondents.
