The attitude of Ukrainians to political information on Ukrainian TV channels
From September 8 to 23, 2018, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted its own nationwide poll of public opinion. By the method of personal interview, 2026 respondents living in 109 settlements of all regions of Ukraine (except Crimea) were interviewed in a 4-step stochastic sample that is representative for the population of Ukraine from the age of 18. In Luhansk and Donetsk regions, the poll was conducted only on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. The statistical sampling error (with a probability of 0.95 and a design effect of 1.5) does not exceed: 3.3% for indicators close to 50%, 2.8% - for indicators close to 25%, 2.0% - for indicators close to 10%, 1.4% - for indicators close to 5%. Trust to Ukrainian TV channels The highest level of Ukrainians' trust in news releases on such channels as 1 + 1, ICTV, STB, Ukraine and local TV channels (33-40%). If we look at the balance of trust and distrust, then the first are the same channels, but Ukraine gives way to the local channel due to a higher level of distrust. For almost all channels, the balance is positive or different from zero within the error margin. The level of trust in television channels is higher than in many social institutions (see http://www.kiis.com.ua/?lang=ukr&cat=reports&id=678) The lowest balance of trust in news releases on channels 5, Espresso, Direct and NewsOne, the number of those who trust is roughly equal to those who do not trust. Table 1. Trust in news releases on Ukrainian TV channels,% of respondents who trust and not trust
To the question "Imagine that today the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopts an important law for you. On what channel will you watch the broadcast from the Verkhovna Rada? ", Almost half (48%) replied that they would not watch such a broadcast (26%) or did not watch TV at all (10%), or could not answer the question (12 %)Among those who would watch such a broadcast, 13% prefer the channel 1 + 1, 9% - channel Inter, 7% - channel Ukraine, then ICTV and 112 (4%), other channels less than 3%. Table 2. On which channel would you watch the broadcast from the Verkhovna Rada?
To the question "How much, in your opinion, the Ukrainian TV channels are oppositional to the current government?", The most opposed are Inter (24%), NewsOne (16%), Ukraine (16%) and 112 (14%) most pro-government ones - the 5th channel (33%), 1 + 1 (32%), Ukraine (26%). But if we take the balance (the percentage of those who consider the channel to be an opposition minus the percentage of those who consider it to be pro-government, we conventionally called this difference the Opposition Index), then the population considers only one channel as the opposition - NewsOne, only for it the percentage of those who consider it to be oppositional higher than the percentage of those who consider it to be pro-government. Next are Inter, 112, ZIK with approximately zero balance of opposition and proximity. And then 24th, Esprosso, Ukraine, which the population considers to be more pro-government or oppositional (even more so applies to all other channels). Table 3. Percentage of the population, who consider television channels to be oppositional and pro-government, organized according to the Opposition Index
