The readiness of the Ukrainians to participate in social protest actions

Within the recent public opinion research "Omnibus" the issue that concerned the protest intentions of the Ukrainians. According to the survey, 45.6% of the respondents are not willing to participate in any mass protest actions, 5.9% - could not give a definite answer, 48.5% are ready to take part in some protests.

Stressful situations in the lives of the Ukrainians, 2016

According to the latest KIIS survey, 58% of participants experienced some stressful situation during the last year. Compared to the data of 2015 this percentage decreased by 5 percentage points (it was 64% last year), while the percentages of those who lost the belief in people, and of those who found themselves left with no livelihood slightly increased. The amount of those who became jobless decreased.

The amount of those who did not experience any stressful situation increased by 3 percentage points (from 34% in 2015 to 37% in 2016).

Changes in the attitude of the population of Ukraine toward Russia and of the population of Russian toward Ukraine

The attitude of the population of Ukraine toward Russia stays unchangeable (positive attitude – 40%, negative – 47% of the Ukrainians), while the attitude of the population of Russia toward Ukraine became better compared to September 2016. The amount of those Russians who have a positive attitude to Ukraine was 26% in September, and 34% in December. However, this percentage is still smaller than the percentage of the Ukrainians who hold positive attitude to Russia. The amount of those who prefer closed borders and visas between the countries decreased in both states (in Russia – from 39% to 33%, in Ukraine – from 49% to 43%).

Dynamics of the attitudes of the Ukrainians towards public opinion polls, December 2016

December poll showed that half of the population of Ukraine (50%) trust data of the sociological organizations that have been operating for a long time already, 14% - do not trust, others do not have an opinion on this matter. The rate of trust toward sociological surveys has not changed over the past year, the rate of mistrust slightly increased that is why trust-mistrust balance (percentage of those who trust minus percentage of those who mistrust) slightly decreased (from 40% to 36%) comparing to the analogical data of December 2015

Trust to social institutions

The most trustworthy institutions for the Ukrainians are the church, volunteers and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The least trustworthy are the government of Ukraine, Russian mass-media and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (these institutions` trust rate among the population is less than 10%). In general, the trust rate changed significantly over the past year. There is a tendency for the decrease of the Ukrainians rate of trust toward the social institutions.
