The political orientation of Kyiv citizens

Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted a study of representative sample of adult population (aged 18 years and older) in Kyiv during the period of May 17–June 5, 2013.

The study was conducted at the request of public organization "Kyiv Municipal League."

The current investigation was designed to study adult population’s views on various social and political topics and their electoral preferences.

A total of 1,011 residents of Kyiv were interviewed.

Statistical deviation for sample including of 1,011 respondents (excluding design-effect) does not exceed:
3.2% — for index close to 50%,
2.8% — for index close to 25% and 75%,
2.1% — for index close to 12% and 88%,
1.4% — for index close to 5% and 95%,
0.7% — for index that are close to 1% and 99%.

 

The survey showed that Kiev citizens are not satisfied with the situation in the city and with activities provided by the Head of the Kiev City State Administration. Thus, 61% of Kiev residents believe that management of the capital of Ukraine takes the wrong direction in their activities, including 34% of residents who are sure in the statement above. 56% of Kiev citizens are not satisfied with Head’s of the Kiev City State Administration activities, including 32% of respondents totally unsatisfied.

Besides:

  • Residents of the capital have no definite opinion about whether it would be a right step to conduct elections of Kiev Major without elections of members of Kiev City State Administration. Thus, 40% of respondents think it would be unfair, and 38% of citizens, however, consider it would be fair. Also, the vast majority of Kiev citizens — 60% — believe that elections to district councils should be restored.
  • The vast majority of Kiev citizens — 69% are unsatisfied with the fact that elections of Major of the city and members of Kiev City State Administration have not been conducted yet. 63% of Kiev residents believe that local elections in the capital should have been held in early summer this year. Only 13% agree that elections should be held along with other local elections in 2015.

Perhaps, you already know that there are several opinions about the date of the local elections in Kyiv. Some believe that the elections were to be held in early summer this year. Others say that Kiev elections should be held along with other local elections in autumn 2015. Which position do you support?
