Political orientations of the population of Ukraine
KIIS conducted nationwide poll during the period of February 09–19, 2012. 2031 respondents were interviewed; the research covered all regions of Ukraine (including the city of Kyiv) and Crimea; sample was random and representative for the population of Ukraine aged 18 years and older. Statistical sampling error (with a probability of 0.95 and a design-effect 1.5) does not exceed 3.3% for index close to 50%, 2,8% — index close to 25%, 2,0% — index close to 10%, 1 4% — index close to 5%.
According to the results of the present poll, if parliamentary elections were held in the second half of February this year, about 64% of voters of Ukraine would participate in the elections; and the following parties would get the majority of votes:
# Party of Regions — 17.3%; Ukrainian Nationwide Coalescing "Batkivschyna" (Y. Tymoshenko) — 13.1%; the Party "Front of Changes" (A. Yatseniuk) — 8.1%; Communist Party of Ukraine (P. Symonenko ) — 5.4%; the Party "UDAR" headed by Vitaliy Klychko — 5.4% # The next three positions would be held by the Ukrainian Nationwide Coalescing "Svoboda" (O. Tiagnybok) — 3.4%; the Party "Strong Ukraine" (S. Tihipko) — 3.0% and the Party “Civil Position” (A. Hrytsenko) — 2.0%
If the elections of the President of Ukraine were held in the second half of February this year, the following possible candidates would get the majority of votes:
When compared with November, 2011, a statistically significant increase is observed regarding the support of Viktor Yanukovych (from 11.8% to 16.8%), Yulia Tymoshenko (from 9.6% to 12.9%), Vitaliy Klychko (from 4 to 6 %) and Sergii Tigipko (from 3.1% to 4.3%). # The vast majority of the population is dissatisfied with both political (71%) and economic (79%) situation in the country. # Expressive dissatisfaction is observed among residents of all regions: 85% of residents of the Western region, 80% — in Central area, 77% — in the South and 73% — in the Eastern region1 are dissatisfied with the present economic situation; 80% of residents of the Western region, 71% — in Central area, 65% — in the South and 66% — in the Eastern region are dissatisfied with the present political situation.
# Almost two-thirds of the population of Ukraine (65%) believe that things done in the country go in the wrong direction: # In the Western region 75% of respondents believe in the above; in the Central area — 66%, in the East — 62% and in the South — 58%.
